Isle of Dogs by Michal Huniewicz

At last, I got around looking at my Isle of Dogs photos from the past years. It's no longer where I live, so it has some nostalgia value to me now. Some COVID-era shots among these.

Isle of Dogs

O2 Arena

O2 Arena
The tidal River Thames and the O2 Arena seen from the Isle of Dogs (actually, a peninsula [1]). On the left, you can see a city ferry boat. Bottom right, a utilitarian platform used by tug boats.

Isle of Dogs

Isle of Dogs
This is the Folly Beach, on the east side of the Isle of Dogs. Canary Wharf seen in the distance. A tavern once stood here, and I named a cocktail after it.

Foggy Thames

Foggy Thames
The dark sand of the Thames yields many objects.
ISO 500, 27mm, f/5.6, 1/100s.

Foggy Thames

Foggy Thames
It was a rare event for the wind to be so low that the surface of the river would resemble a mirror. On this morning, the fog crept across from the north.

Foggy Thames #2

The North Greenwich Peninsula seen across the river.

Gritty

Gritty
Not every foggy morning was equally picturesque. This was a cold winter day, and the other side of the river disappeared.
ISO 100, 24mm, f/7.1, 1/80s.

Kelson

Kelson
The so called Kelson House, one of London's brutalist towers, disappearing in the fog, probably for the best.
ISO 100, 29mm, f/7.1, 1/320s.

Barges

Barges
Utilitarian Thames barges in the fog. They'd make a tonne of noise, metal rubbing against metal.
ISO 100, 70mm, f/5.0, 1/400s.

Polished

Polished
The smoothest Thames I ever managed to capture with my camera. On days like this one, the atmosphere would be quite North African to me, something about the dry air and the smell.
ISO 100, 24mm, f/3.5, 1/4000s.

Sunrise on the Thames

Ripped

Ripped
In 2022, the O2 Arena was ripped open by the wind.

Busy on the Thames

Busy on the Thames
The river gets busy at times with helicopters flying over and marine traffic. The ship is RFA Lyme Bay. [2]

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas
Christ Church on the Isle of Dogs. It's surrounded by a tiny graveyard, normally locked, where I did manage to get inside once and chat with a more local inhabitant. She explained the ashes of the parishioners still get interred there.

There aren't so many of those old council blocks left around here.
